Mustangs earn shutout win over SUNY Cobleskill

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville Men's Soccer team dominated all 90 minutes of play on Tuesday evening, defeating the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers 3-0 under the lights on Drake Field. With the win, the Mustangs improve to 5-8 overall, while maintaining a 2-4 record in the United East conference.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Olvin Yanes (Selden, NY) started off the scoring for the Mustangs, netting his seventh goal of the season in the 35th minute of play. Yanes exploded down the field and buried the ball past the Cobleskill keeper to score the unassisted goal putting the Mustangs up 1-0.
  • The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the second half when El Hadji Gueye (Bronx, NY) recorded his first ever collegiate goal in the 69th minute of action. The freshman forward carried the ball down the left sideline, beating out multiple Cobleskill defenders, firing a shot that just grazed the post to give Morrisville the two-goal lead.
  • Joshua Triana (Rahway, NJ) rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs, finding the back of the net on a pass from Kelvin Diaz (Spring Valley, NY) in the 73rd minute. The score marked Triana's first goal as a Mustang.
  • Morrisville racked up fifteen total shots, to Cobleskill's two, while holding a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Nicholas Beevers (Cobleskill, NY) collected one save in the win.

  • Morrisville returns to United East conference play on Saturday evening, hosing Penn State-Harrisburg at 6:00pm.
