Morrisville forces fifth, but falls short in 3-2 decision to RIT

Box Score ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville battled back to force a fifth set but ran out of time as they dropped a 3-2 match decision to host Rochester Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon in Rochester.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville volleyball trailed two sets to one in the outing with host RIT Saturday early afternoon, battling back in the fourth to force a fifth and final set, but fell short as the Tigers claimed the 3-2 match win down the stretch in Rochester.
  • Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) led Morrisville's efforts with a match total 22 kills, posting the double-double with 10 digs.
  • Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) added 13 to go along with four service aces, four blocks and 13 digs, while teammate Keelin Baker (Vestal, N.Y.) contributed eight kills to go along with three blocks and two aces.
  • Siobhan Moore (Leyden, Mass.) put up 43 assists for the Mustangs, with Kayla Sheasby (Hood River, Ore.) posting 14 digs.
  • After RIT claimed the match opening 25-19 set win over the Mustangs, Morrisville utilized the swings of Huppee and Gates to even the match at one after claiming the 25-17 set two victory.
  • RIT regained the match lead in the third set with a 25-19 edge, but Morrisville shifted the tables in the fourth to force a fifth and decisive set for the match.
  • With the fourth set tied at 22, RIT registered back-to-back attack errors to give the Mustangs the two-point lead, before a kill by Gates forced the fifth as Morrisville took the set 25-23.
  • In the fifth, Morrisville hung within two points of the Tigers for a majority of the set, but RIT was able to pull out the win with a 15-11 set victory.
 
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will look to rebound from the loss with an afternoon match with Bard College at 1:30 p.m.
