WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville battled back from a 10-point halftime deficit Saturday afternoon, but fell sort on time as Penn College escaped with a 78-72 league win in United East play in Williamsport.
  • Four netted double figures for the Mustangs in their efforts, including Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who collected 25 points, hitting six three's on the day.
  • Michael Litchfield (Saint Albans, N.Y.) posted a collegiate high 17, adding five assists to his totals.
  • Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) added 12 to go along with 11 rebounds for a double-double for the point guard, also dishing out five assists and adding three steals, while Isiah Walker (Freeport, N.Y.) rounded out the Mustang leaderboard with his 10 points and six boards.
  • Morrisville jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage but Penn College clawed their way into the lead with an 8-0 run and built up their advantage to as many as 14 as they limited the Mustangs to a 25% shooting effort from the floor in the first half.
  • Holding the 34-24 lead at the break, Penn College found the tables reversed in the second as Morrisville came out of the locker room hitting back-to-back three's before connecting on the fast-break to make it a four-point ball game.
  • Penn jumped back out to a 10-point advantage, but a 11-3 run by the Mustangs again brought the lead down to a one-possession game for the visitors.
  • A fade-away three by Smith midway through the second gave Morrisville their first lead of the second half, and both teams played back-and-forth for the remainder of the period before a three by Penn regained the lead for good for the hosts who secured the win from the free throw line down the stretch.
  • Morrisville finished the contest with a 43.3 effort from long range, hitting 13 from beyond the arc, while collecting 24 points off 18 Wildcat turnovers.
