Six net double figures as women down Berks in United East play

Hammersley nets triple-double in win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team had six net double figures Wednesday night in United East action, as they ran away with a 98-27 final victory over visiting Penn St. Berks in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville had six players net double-figures Wednesday evening, as they downed visiting Penn St. Berks by a 98-27 final score in United East play.
  • Sophomore guard Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) paved the way for the hosts with 21 points, adding two assists to her totals while fellow guard Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) chipped in a season high 17, hitting 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.
  • Abby VandeWalker (Johnstown, N.Y.) collected a collegiate high 16 off the bench, draining four from long range, while assisting two others.
  • Josely Medina (Florida, N.Y.) found her way into the Mustang leader board with her 14 points, four buckets that came from behind the arc, while assisting four others.
  • Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) picked up the double-double in 27 minutes of play with 11 points and 10 rebounds, registering seven assists, while teammate Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) added 13 points.
  • Hammersley, who is coming off three straight double-double performances in league play, added another to her collection, but in a collegiate first triple-double fashion for the sophomore who snagged a team high 16 rebounds and dished out a league leading 11 assists. She is one of 12 players across all Division III to post the triple-double this season.
  • Olivia Brunner (East Branch, N.Y.) rounded out all scoring for the hosts with her six points and seven rebounds.
  • Morrisville dominated from the opening whistle, leading 15-0 before Berks registered a score, and raced out to a 22-7 first quarter advantage.
  • They added to their totals in the second to broaden the gap to a 45-14 halftime lead.
  • In the third, the Mustangs shot 55% from the floor, draining five three's, before heading into the fourth where they added to their lead and collected a total 16 long balls on the night.
  • Morrisville took advantage of Nittany Lion miscues, collecting 35 points off turnovers while dominating the paint with a 46-32 advantage on the glass.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville, who currently sits in third overall in league standings, will return to the court Saturday for a 3 p.m. tip-off at Penn College.
