Women's basketball powers past St. Mary's College in United East action

Box Score SAINT MARYS CITY, MD – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team had five net double figures as they powered past host St. Mary's College Friday night in Maryland in United East action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Five posted double-figures as the visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team downed host St. Mary's College Friday night in Maryland, picking up a key league victory over the Seahawks.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with a double-double performance, netting 17 points and adding 14 rebounds, as Morrisville controlled the boards 47-39 over the hosts.
  • Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) added another 16 points, hitting 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, while Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) chipped in 15 to go along with her two assists.
  • Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) notched 12 points and added another eight rebounds, collecting a team high five assists while Carli Pardee (South Kortright, N.Y.) rounded out the team leaderboard with her 10-point night.
  • Both teams played even through the opening quarter of action, but it was a hot shooting effort by the Mustangs in the second that paced the visitors to a 38-29 halftime lead as they poured in 24 second quarter points.
  • St. Mary's opened with a jumper to take a two-point lead in the second frame, but a three by Pardee kicked off a 14-0 run by the Mustangs over the next four minutes, broadening the gap to a 12-point visitor advantage.
  • Morrisville didn't let off the gas as they increased their lead to as many as 28 across the remainder of the contest, collecting the win.

  • Morrisville will take the court for a second time in the weekend's action today, traveling to Gallaudet for a 3 p.m. tip.
