Morrisville men falter in opening half, drop 71-58 decision to St. Mary's

Box Score ST. MARY CITY, MD – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team fell behind in the opening half of Friday night's action at St. Mary's College of Maryland and were unable to recover despite a solid second half, as they dropped a 71-58 decision to the Seahawks in United East action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville men's basketball had three post double figures, including it's senior duo of Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) and Hunter Kowaleski (Cazenovia, N.Y.) but the Mustangs struggled to overcome the 13-point deficit after the opening half as they fell in United East action Friday night to host Saint Mary's College.
  • Kowaleski collected 14 points in the Mustang efforts, adding five rebounds to his totals on the night, while Brennan added another 11 to go along with a team high six boards and three assists.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the visitors with 16 points, hitting 6-of-7 from the free throw line, while contributing four off the glass to the Mustang totals on the night.
  • Both teams battled throughout the opening six minutes of the contest, before the hosts put together an 8-1 spurt to create a seven-point gap midway through the first period, maintaining a double-digit distance until the six minute mark when the Mustangs added one of their own.
  • Morrisville added a 7-0 burst to their first half efforts to make it a four-point game with 4:29 remaining, but the Seahawks picked up momentum to carry a 13-point lead into the break.
  • In the second, Morrisville found its offensive rhythm, but St. Mary's was able to match their scoring effort as they collected the league win.

  • Morrisville looks to rebound Saturday afternoon as they travel to Gallaudet University for a second of the weekend's league action. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Washington, DC.
