Men’s Soccer defeats Gallaudet to earn first United East win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville men's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals to pull away from visiting Gallaudet University on Sunday afternoon, securing their first conference win in United East play. Junior forward, Chandley Elie (Baldwin, NY) once again came up big for Morrisville, scoring both goals for the Mustangs

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Neither team could find any offensive momentum in the first half of play with Morrisville taking ten shots in the opening frame to Galladuet's 4; the Bison held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks heading into halftime.
  • Elie struck first for the Mustangs, notching his eighth goal of the season at 55:15. Following a foul on Bison goalkeeper, Shane Angel, Elie took advantage of the miscue burying the penalty kick goal to give Morrisville the first lead of the game.
  • Gallaudet would even the score at 77:58, as freshman Diego Garcia scored the equalizer for the visitors.
  • It didn't take long for Morrisville to pull back out in front, with Elie scoring his second goal of the game at 80:41 off of a breakaway, ripping a shot from 20 yards out.
  • Morrisville outshot Gallaudet 21-12, with 10 of their shots on target. Cody Welkley (North Rose, NY) recorded 5 saves in all 90' minutes of action, posting his second win of the season.
  • After Sunday's victory, Elie leads the United East conference in goals (9), shots (35), and points (20).

  • Men's soccer takes a break from United East conference play this week, traveling to Hartwick College on Wednesday for a 6:00pm kickoff.
