LANCASTER, P.A. – The SUNY Morrisville softball team picked up their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon, defeating Lancaster Bible College in game two of the day's doubleheader. After falling to the hosts 8-0 in game one, the Mustangs took an early lead and never looked back in game two, securing a 5-4 win over the Chargers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, Lancaster Bible College exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second of game one.
- The Chargers tacked on three additional runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the game one victory.
- The Mustangs saw hits from both Jessica Burlew (Hopatcong, NJ) and Jade Atherton (Greenwood, NY) in game one. Caitlin McCutchan (Clayton, DE) suffered the loss for Morrisville, allowing eight hits and striking out four.
- Morrisville rallied back in game two, taking an early 3-1 lead after the first inning. Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) got things started for the Mustangs with a single to shortstop. Two batters later, Hannah Godfrey (Southgate, MI) singled to the pitcher, scoring Kennedy. The lead grew to two when Toni Baker (Pittsgrove, NJ) came up with a sacrifice fly to right field to score McCutchan. Godfrey tacked on a third run for Morrisville when Atherton ripped a single to right center.
- Lancaster Bible College cut the deficit to one, scoring runs in the bottom of the first and second.
- A scoreless inning in the third led to superb base running for the Mustangs in the fourth. Atherton recorded her second hit of the game with a single to right field, making her way into scoring position at third off of a wild pitch and a sacrifice bunt. Atherton scored the lone run after Maria Santilli (Bristol, CT) laid down a sacrifice bunt down the third baseline.
- Burlew scored the eventual game-winning run in the fifth, getting on base with a walk and later scoring when Baker came up with a sacrifice fly to left field.
- The Mustangs held Lancaster Bible College scoreless in the sixth, and gave up just one run in the seventh to run away with the 5-4 victory.
- Kennedy and Atherton led Morrisville with two hits apiece, while Godfrey recorded two RBI's in the win.
- Kellina Murpy (Yonkers, NY) earned her first win of the season for the Mustangs, pitching all seven innings and striking out three.

The Mustang softball season comes to a close on Monday, as Morrisville travels to Aurora, NY to take on Wells College in a NEAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm, with game two to follow.
