MIDDLETOWN, P.A. – After a bit of a hiatus, the SUNY Morrisville softball team was back in action Friday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to host, Penn State-Harrisburg.
Makayla Lawrence (Webster, NY) and
Jessica Burlew (Hopatcong, NJ) led the Mustangs with three hits apiece.
THE BASICS
Game 1:
- Final Score: Penn State-Harrisburg 10, Morrisville 2 – 6 Innings

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Penn State-Harrisburg jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after two scoreless innings for Morrisville.
- The Mustangs made their mark on the scoreboard in the top of the third, scoring two runs. With two outs and the bases loaded, Toni Baker (Pittsgrove, NJ) reached first on an error, scoring Chyne Kennedy (Southwold, Ontario) and Caitlin McCutchan (Clayton, DE) to cut the lead to one.
- The Nittany Lions responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third to take an 8-2 lead. They capped things off with a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth to eventually capture a 10-2 win.
- In game two, Penn State-Harrisburg scored 11 runs in the first, taking a large lead in to the second.
- The Mustangs responded with two runs in the top of the second; Lawrence got things started with a single to right field, eventually advancing to third on two passed balls. Burlew ripped a single up the middle, scoring both McCutchan and Lawrence.
- Hot bats from Lawrence and Burlew continued in the fourth, with Lawrence leading off with another single to right field. With McCutchan on first after a walk and Lawrence in scoring position at second, Burlew tripled to left center scoring both runners. Kennedy carried the momentum, singling to left field scoring Burlew.
- Four additional runs in the fourth sealed the victory for the hosts. Morrisville recorded six total hits in game two, including three from Lawrence and two from Burlew, who also finished with four RBI's.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Mustangs return right back to action tomorrow, hosting Penn State-Abington in a NEAC doubleheader. Games are slated to start at 1:00pm and 3:00pm, pending weather conditions.
