WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse team defended their tournament title Saturday afternoon and earned the league's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament as they claimed their fourth straight championship with a 22-8 defeat of second seeded Lancaster Bible College.
  • The Mustangs topped Lancaster Bible for a second time this season, stalling the Chargers offense and limiting them to just 28 total shots on the day, 13 of which Morrisville goalkeeper Kadi Denney (Lorraine, N.Y.) turned away to earn tournament Most Valuable Player accolades. Denney also collected a team high six ground balls and caused two turnovers in the win.
  • After leading 9-7 at the break, Morrisville came out with all guns firing in the second half, outscoring the Chargers 13-1 en route to the win.
  • Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) posted a new collegiate high, collecting her fourth double-digit performance behind five goals and seven assists.
  • Senior Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) earned her third championship medal by adding six goals and an assist for seven points, also causing two turnovers.
  • Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) also collected seven points with her six goals and an assist, while fellow midfielder Lauren McGreal (Pawling, N.Y.) posted the hat trick with three goals and an assist.
  • McGreal also added five draw control wins to go with the six that were collected by Alana McDonald (Potsdam, N.Y.), who also added a goal and assist to the Mustang tallies.
  • Jaele Naab (Buffalo, N.Y.) rounded out all Mustang scoring with a goal.
  • Lancaster's leading scorer Kendal Ream posted a team high three goals for the Chargers, adding six draws and four ground balls.
  • Kaitlyn Myers and Katelynn Perrotta each added two goals and an assist, while Camryn Horst collected a score to contribute to the Charger efforts.
  • Alexis Garrett posted the loss with her six save effort in net as Lancaster finishes the season 6-4.
  • Morrisville struck first with the senior Santini burying the feed from Baum, before Baum found Treadway nearly two minutes later to increase the host lead to 2-0.
  • Horst collected the first for the Chargers 46 ticks later, but a score from McGreal answered and put the Mustangs back ahead by two.
  • After trading scores, Morrisville put together a three-goal spurt and led 6-2 midway through the contest, before Lancaster responded with their own rally to cut the lead to one with 2:24 to go in the opening half.
  • A dish from Santini found an open Baum who buried the ball for the 9-7 advantage with 51 seconds to go, carrying over into the halftime break.
  • Morrisville came out on fire in the second half, netting eight straight to open the game to a 17-7 lead, and didn't look back as they allowed just one Charger score while closing out with a five-goal run.
  • Baum got scoring rolling with an unassisted tally just minutes into the contest, before Santini added one on the man-down.
  • Santini went on to add three more scores, with Baum adding two more and assisting another three.
  • Lancaster attempted a comeback, but the Mustangs defense was stingy and capitalized on each opportunity to earn the win.
