Morrisville men post shut-out win over Wells

Men's Lacrosse
Box Score AURORA, N.Y. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's lacrosse rolled to their second NEAC win of the season Friday night, collecting the shut-out victory over host Wells College by a 20-0 final score, as nine contributed goals to the winning effort. The shut-out is the first for the Mustangs since becoming a member of the NCAA, and the first for head coach Jason Longo in his career on the sidelines for Morrisville.

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 20, Wells College 0 (halftime – Morrisville 9-0)
  • Location: Wells College, Aurora, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 3-1, 2-0 NEAC; Wells 0-3, 0-2 NEAC
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville dominated from the opening whistle behind a solid collective effort as nine different Mustangs posted goals with the defensive unit recording the shut-out victory.
  • Morrisville limited the Express to 15 total shots on the night, seven stops made by goalkeeper Dylan Laplace (Chester, Conn.) to secure the second straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win of the season.
  • The shut-out win is the first for LaPlace in his collegiate career and marks a single game record for lowest goals-against average in program history since becoming a member of the NCAA in 2006.
  • Alex Nowak (Cazenovia, N.Y.) and Dante Patriarco (Cortland, N.Y.) each collected six points in the win for the Mustangs, Nowak netting four tallies and assisting two others, while Patriarco contributed three goals and three assists.
  • Three recorded a four-point night, including Roman Reiss (LaFayette, N.Y.) who posted four goals.
  • Evan Kistner (Fulton, N.Y.) also tallied four points, notching two scores and adding two assists, while freshman Connor Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) posted his first collegiate goal, netting two more to go along with one assist.
  • Geoffrey Field (Glen Cove, N.Y.), Zack Mabry (Suffern, N.Y.), Willie Burns (Cutchogue, N.Y.) and Chris Picciott (Brewerton, N.Y.) each added one to round out the Mustang scoring.
  • Burns and Picciott also registered an assist along with Zach Nestor (Manlius, N.Y.) who dished out three.
  • Soren Bredeson (Eagle, Colo.) connected with two to add to the Mustangs offensive game with Garrett Mead (Homer, N.Y.) also recording an assist.
  • Morrisville outgained Wells 29-23 in the ground game, with Gerald Klubek (Eden, N.Y.) picking up a team high seven off wins from the center X.
  • Bredeson added six, again from his dominance at the center start.
  • Morrisville opened scoring early and often, as Reiss notched the first tally of the night a mere 1:24 into the contest. Within minutes he added a second for his 12th of the season and a 2-0 visitor lead.
  • The Mustangs added four more to open their lead to 6-0 after the first frame, with tallies coming from four different scorers, making it difficult for the Express defense.
  • Patriarco, who added the last score of the first, notched the first of the second quarter just 1:04 in as the Mustangs added two more to take the commanding 9-0 advantage at the break.
  • In the third, Morrisville added to their lead with tallies from four different sticks, including the collegiate first from Connor Picciott with 8:04 to go in the frame.
  • Much like the remainder of the contest, the visitors dominated the fourth as well, wrapping up the night with seven more goals to secure the win.

WHAT'S NEXT:

  • Morrisville returns to the field next Saturday, hosting Hilbert College in the first of three straight home battles. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Morrisville.
