Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – SUNY Morrisville women's lacrosse battled to their first win of the 2021 season Wednesday evening, topping host SUNY Potsdam by a final 11-10 overtime decision in thrilling fashion, behind a career high nine points from Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.).

THE BASICS:
  • Final Score: Morrisville 11, Potsdam 10 OT (halftime – Potsdam 7-6)
  • Location: Potsdam, N.Y.
  • Records: Morrisville 1-1, Potsdam 0-1
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville attacker Maddie Baum (Fulton, N.Y.) led all scorers on the afternoon as she collected a collegiate high six goals and three assists to lead the Mustangs to their first win of the 2021 season.
  • Mustang Senior Makenzi Santini (Fairport, N.Y.) opened all scoring on the day 1:45 into the contest on a free position before Potsdam rattled off three straight to claim a 3-1 advantage 10 minutes in.
  • Baum collected her first at the 19:23 mark to bring the Mustangs within one, before the hosts again went on a 3-0 spurt to open the lead to 6-2 with 10 to go in the half.
  • Baum broke the Potsdam streak with an unassisted tally and about 30 seconds later connected with a cutting Aria Treadway (Rome, N.Y.) to cut the lead to two.
  • Back-to-back tallies by Baum sent the game into the halftime period with a 7-6 Potsdam lead.
  • After a Potsdam tally to extend the host lead to two, Morrisville rifled off three straight – the first from Jaele Naab (Buffalo, N.Y.) who posted her first collegiate score, a fifth from Baum and a second from Santini – giving the Mustangs their first lead of the contest with 4:55 to go.
  • Potsdam tied it up at nine with 2:55 remaining, before Baum countered with her sixth of the day, regaining the lead for Morrisville.
  • The Bears, who tied the contest at 10 with 1:44 to go in regulation had two attempts to claim the win, but goalkeeper Kadi Denney (Lorraine, N.Y.) posted two huge stops, including on a free position, to keep the hosts off the board and send the game into overtime.
  • In the extra time, Lauren McGreal (Pawling, N.Y.) claimed her fourth draw control of the day and following a ground ball pick up by Naab to maintain possession, at the 1:37 mark into the overtime period Morrisville struck as Baum fed a cutting Treadway from behind the net for the sudden victory winning tally.
  • Denney finished the contest with six saves in the win, while Laura Lorraine (Hamilton, N.Y.) added two to the team's totals with her 14 minutes played in net.
  • Baum finished with a total nine points and added a team high seven ground balls to go along with two caused turnovers to her tallies on the day.
  • Santini and Treadway each finished with two scores, adding a combined five ground balls and five draw control wins.
