Morrisville western team sweeps competition for show win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville western equestrian team swept the competition Saturday, December 4 at the Mustangs IHSA western show held at the riding arena on Swamp Road, capturing high point team accolades in both competitions, while collecting wins in each class in the morning show.

Host SUNY Morrisville western equestrian team swept the competition Saturday as they captured high point team accolades for the double-show hosted by the Mustangs at their indoor riding arena on Swamp Road in Morrisville.
Angela Pratt (Olympia, Wash.) rode to high point rider honors in the morning show with her double win in open reining and open western horsemanship, while teammate Julia West (Chazy, N.Y.) captured reserve high point rider accolades with her blue-ribbon ride in level II ranch riding and level II horsemanship.
Morrisville, in the morning show, swept all competition with top rides in each class.
Following a Pratt win in the reining class, Veronika Alinskas (Westford, Mass.) took home the top ride in the level II ranch riding class.
Abbigayle Kubis (Watertown, N.Y.) claimed second overall in level II ranch riding for the Mustangs.
Victoria Epstein (Liberty, N.Y.) took home a second place ride in the open western horsemanship.
In level II western horsemanship, West claimed the win followed by a third and fourth place finish by the Mustangs, with Kubis claiming third and Alinskas finishing fourth.
Jenna Tyson (Pottstown, Pa.) led the Mustangs with a winning ride in the level I western horsemanship class, followed by a fourth place finish by Stephanie Rodman (VanEtten, N.Y.).
Megan Holloway (Apalachin, N.Y.) finished fifth in that same class.
Maggie Herbert (Jeffersonville, N.Y.) turned in the win for Morrisville in rookie B western horsemanship, with Airin Rynearson (Deposit, N.Y.) claiming third.
In section 2 of the same class, Alyson Hyatt (Patterson, N.Y.) posted her first win of the season with a second place finish by Rita Dziedzic (Goshen, Conn.).
Hannah Crofut (North Bay, N.Y.) took home the blue in the rookie A western horsemanship, defeating three other riders from Syracuse in the class for the win.
Samantha Dolan (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Makayla Huestis (Ticonderoga, N.Y.) claimed first and second in the beginner western horsemanship class to round out the morning show for the Mustangs, leading them to high point team accolades with 40 points.
In the afternoon, Morrisville proved to be the team to beat, again collecting high point team honors as they tallied 34 team points for the show win.
Three riders in all tied for individual high point honors, including Epstein and West, who once again rose to the top of their competition classes.
Epstein captured the win in open reining, while finishing third in open western horsemanship; while West claimed the winning ride in level II ranch riding while finishing third in level II western horsemanship.
Lindsey Eberle (Holbrook, N.Y.) also posted second place for the Mustangs in reining, wile teammates Alinskas rode to second place in level II ranch riding and Pratt to a first place finish in open western horsemanship.
Kubis finished second and Alinskas fourth in level II western horsemanship for the Mustangs.
In level I western horsemanship, Holloway captured the win for the Mustangs, while Michaela Totman (East Falmouth, Mass.) was fourth.
Herbert again rode to the top in the Rookie B Western Horsemanship class, followed by a third place ride from Hyatt in the same class.
In Rookie A western horsemanship, Crofutt was second, before Dolan finished the show with a second place ride for Morrisville in beginner western horsemanship.

WHAT'S NEXT:

Morrisville will return to the riding arena next semester once the show schedule is confirmed.
