Morrisville women post come-from-behind victory in United East thriller

Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team picked up a thrilling 69-67 United East victory Saturday afternoon as they posted the comeback victory in the fourth quarter to top host Penn State Harrisburg in Middletown.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville trailed by five entering the final quarter Saturday afternoon, but used a 44% shooting effort from the floor, while forcing five host turnovers as they posted the thrilling 69-67 come-from-behind victory over the Lions Saturday in Middletown.
  • Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) had the hot hand for the Mustangs, netting a total 20 points, 18 of which came in the first half as she downed six three's.
  • Colone-Microni added six rebounds and three steals to her totals, while teammate Kayla Dykas (Red Hook, N.Y.) posted a collegiate high 11 points off the bench for the Mustangs, adding four off the glass.
  • Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) added nine, while Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) dished out five assists.
  • Morrisville raced out to a 23-15 opening quarter lead behind four from Colone-Microni from downtown.
  • After Colone-Microni added her fifth three minutes into the second, Harrisburg battled back from the 11-point deficit to carry a two-point advantage into the break.
  • Harrisburg extended their lead to five at the end of the third quarter, before extending their lead to seven early in the fourth.
  • A three-pointer by Dykas sparked the Mustangs offense to go on an eight-point run, where she nailed a second to give the visitors their first lead of the fourth.
  • Two free throws by Harrisburg shifted the lead back the direction of the hosts, but a three-point play by Walker gave the Mustangs the two-point edge with just under seven to go.
  • Morrisville maintained the slight edge over the hosts, and a three from Becker made it a two-possession game with four minutes remaining, but it was a third three-ball from Dykas in the quarter that gave the visitors the seven point lead with 3:39 showing on the clock.
  • Harrisburg clawed back to tie the game at 67 with 1:34 remaining, and an offensive rebound by Walker followed by a lay-up regained the lead for the Mustangs, one that stood for the remainder of the contest as they picked up a big conference win.
  • Harrisburg had their chance twice to either take the lead or send it into an extra frame, but Olivia Brunner (East Branch, N.Y.) collected the rebound to seal the win for Morrisville.
  • Brunner finished with a team high 13 boards, seven that came on the offensive glass, while contributing seven points to the Mustang totals.

  • Morrisville will return to the court next Saturday, hosting Utica College at 1 in Morrisville, before wrapping up the first half of the season on the road at Hartwick on the 13th.
