Four post double-figures as women fall to Utica

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team had four net double-figures Saturday afternoon, but fell in non-conference action as they dropped a 90-82 decision to visiting Utica College on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville women's basketball had four net double figures Saturday afternoon but fell short as Utica outgained the Mustangs in the fourth to earn the 90-82 non-conference victory in Morrisville.
  • Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) and Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 23 points apiece, combining for six three's on the afternoon,
  • Walker registered another double-double to add to her total on the year, snagging a team high 14 rebounds, while collecting dive assists. Five of her boards came on the offensive glass for the Mustangs.
  • Olivia Brunner (East Branch, N.Y.) added 12 points while teammate Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) contributed 11 to go along with her three assists and five rebounds.
  • Dezia Becker (Endicott, N.Y.) farmed out five assists for the hosts.
  • Morrisville trailed 49-44 at the halftime break and after a 8-2 opening run by Utica, fought back from an 11-point deficit with a 13-2 stretch of their own to close out the quarter knotted at 65.
  • Walker kicked off the run with a layup in the paint with 3:28 showing on the clock in the quarter before Colone-Microni and Brunner followed with one of their own.
  • Brunner added another to cut the Utica lead to three with 1:29 remaining in the frame, before a Utica bucket made it a two-possession ball game.
  • Kayla Dykas (Red Hook, N.Y.) pulled up for a jumper in the paint before the Mustangs defense forced a Pioneer turnover, capitalizing with a three from the top of the key from Hammersley to send the game into the final quarter tied at 65.
  • Morrisville carried that momentum into the fourth where both teams battled back-and-forth until the 2:50 mark when a three from Cora Sawyer gave the visitors the lead for good, extending the margin with back-to-back strikes from Sydney Przygoda to earn the win.
  • Przygoda finished with a game high 35 in the contest, adding 11 boards, while teammate Brigid Johndrow posted a triple-double behind 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
  • The Mustangs out shot the Pioneers from long range, hitting 11 across the afternoon, while Utica was held to just four from beyond the arc.

  • Morrisville will wrap up the first semester of action Monday, traveling to Hartwick for a non-conference contest in Oneonta.
