Morrisville men open season with loss to Brockport

Box Score BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 season slate Tuesday night, on the road at The College at Brockport, returning home with a 69-61 non-league loss to the host Golden Eagles.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville men's basketball opened the 2021 season slate with a loss to host The College at Brockport by a 69-61 final score in non-conference play.
  • Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched a game high 22 to lead all scorers on the night in his debut for the Mustangs, converting 11-of-11 from the charity stripe, while collecting five rebounds and a steal.
  • Tavon Price (Bronx, N.Y.) also collected double figures for the Mustangs, adding a team high seven rebounds in the loss.
  • Morrisville senior point guard Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) contributed seven points to go along with five assists and five rebounds.
  • Morrisville trailed 27-31 at the half, working through a 27.6% shooting effort as they converted 8-of-29 total shot attempts.
  • The Mustangs maintained striking distance with the Golden Eagles, though, hitting 9-of-11 attempts from the free throw line in the opening half.
  • Morrisville opened the second half with the first bucket, but Brockport's offensive game helped maintain the edge, increasing their lead to as many as six with 8:08 to go.
  • The Mustangs stayed within striking distance, tying the game at 54 with just under five to go in the contest, but Brockport kept attacking on the offensive end of the court and built up an eight-point lead with just over a minute remaining.
  • After a Brockport technical, Morrisville's Smith converted both free throws before Bryce Arroyo (Bronx, N.Y.) added two more to cut the lead to five with 35 ticks to go on the clock, but the hosts hit 3-of-4 from the free throw line to secure the win.
  • Morrisville finished the contest showing 28.8% from the floor on the night, hitting 22-of-27 from the free throw line for the 81.5% conversion.
  • The Mustangs outgained the Golden Eagles on the offensive glass, 14-10, netting 15 second chance points in their effort on the night.

  • Morrisville will return to the court Tuesday, hosting Utica College at 7 p.m. on the Mustangs home court.
