Morrisville takes Potsdam down to the wire in Tuesday night non-conference affair

Box Score POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team battled Potsdam down to the final possession, but ran out of time as the hosts collected a 59-56 non-conference win in thrilling action Tuesday evening in Potsdam.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: 
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville battled back from a 13-point deficit and pushed Potsdam to the end, but fell short on time as they dropped a thrilling 59-56 decision to the Bears Tuesday night in Potsdam.
  • Three posted double-digits for the Mustangs, including Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) who collected 15, while registering three assists.
  • Cara Walker (Phelps, N.Y.) posted another double-double for Morrisville, chipping in 15 points as well as snagging 19 rebounds, while stealing three.
  • Olivia Brunner (East Branch, N.Y.) just missed a double-double, netting 13 points and collecting nine rebounds as Morrisville held the 39-35 advantage on the glass.
  • Morrisville trailed 21-12 after the opening quarter before doubling up the Bears in the second to get back in the game and trail by two at the halftime break.
  • Potsdam led by as many as 13 in the third, before the Mustangs put together a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to five, a lead the hosts carried into the final frame.
  • Back-to-back layups from Walker cut the Potsdam lead to one, and following an and-one by Walker, Morrisville took a two point lead with under four to go.
  • Potsdam gained the edge with 1:14 remaining on a free throw from Alyson Crosby, but Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.)  hit two from the charity stripe to regain the one-point advantage for the Mustangs.
  • Crosby again put the Bears out in front with her bucket in the paint with 27 ticks to go, but on the ensuing possession for the Mustangs, Brunner snagged an offensive board and found her way to the free throw line where she converted both to give Morrisville the one-point lead with 15 left.
  • Potsdam drove to the basket on their possession and after a few bounces on the rim collected the go ahead score, putting the game away with two free throws following a missed Mustang attempt on the opposite end.
  • Crosby finished with 21 for the Bears, while Dyamon Hunter added 14 for Potsdam.

  • Morrisville will open United East play on Friday, Dec. 3 at Lancaster Bible. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Lancaster.
