Smith nets career high as Morrisville men collect second straight win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Junior Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) posted a career high Sunday afternoon, leading the host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team to their second straight win as they downed Alfred State 93-78 in the second of the Route 20 Classic tourney.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball picked up a non-conference win Sunday afternoon in the second day of the Route 20 Classic in Morrisville, with junior guard Tron Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y.) netting a career high 25 points behind stellar shooting on the court.
  • Smith went 7-for-12 from the floor on the day, nailing four from long range, while also contributing five assists to the win.
  • Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) added 16 points, collecting three assists, rebounds and steals, while teammate Tavon Price (Bronx, N.Y.) added another 15.
  • Bryce Arroyo (Bronx, N.Y.) came off the bench to add a collegiate high 18, hitting 7-of-11 shots from the floor as he also collected three boards.
  • Brison Hall (Syracuse, N.Y.) collected 11 of the Mustangs 26 total rebounds, while Isiah Walker (Freeport, N.Y.) added another eight. Walker also added five assists.
  • Both teams played to a back and forth battle in the opening half of action, and Morrisville maintained the one point lead with 3:51 to go before a three by Smith kicked off a 14-2 run for the hosts heading into the break to open the lead to 43-30 advantage for the mustangs.
  • Morrisville took advantage of play in the paint, outgaining the Pioneers 18-8 in the first half, while capitalizing on Alfred turnovers as they added 11 points to their totals in the period.
  • Alfred was held to a 36.36% shooting effort in the first half, while Morrisville had a solid 48.48% performance.
  • In the second Alfred was able to cut the deficit down to as little as nine with just over eight minutes remaining in the contest, but Morrisville proved too much for the visitors as they put together a 9-0 run to double the gap while shooting 75% from the floor and nearly 56% from beyond the arc, maintaining the dominating edge to collect the win.

  • Morrisville returns to the court next Saturday, traveling to Union College to meet Hamilton College in the opening round of the Dutchmen's tourney.
