Men’s soccer battles to second tie of the season on senior night

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's soccer team took the pitch on Saturday evening hosting the Wildcats of Penn College, recognizing the efforts of the senior class prior to kickoff. After battling for 110 minutes, neither team was either to find the back of the net, ending in a 0-0 draw.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • The Mustang defense was the story of the night, with the Wildcats maintaining much of the offensive possession. Penn College tallied 22 shots on the game, with 13 of them on goal, compared to Morrisville's 8 total shots, 4 of them on target.
  • Penn College's Chris McFarland led the Wildcats with seven shots, five of them on target.
  • Morrisville took only two corner kicks throughout the game, while Penn College was awarded four in the draw.
  • Morrisville saw glimpses of hope on the offensive end; Mohamad Sy (New York, NY), Chandley Elie (Baldwin, NY) and reserve, Justin Klaczko (Syracuse, NY) all had great shot attempts on goal, each recording two shots, but coming up just short on the finish.
  • Senior keeper, Cody Welkley (North Rose, NY) made an impressive 13 saves in goal for the Mustangs, two of them coming in the final overtime period.

  • The Mustangs will take a break from competition, returning to the pitch on Wednesday, October 20 to host Wells College in United East conference play at 1:00pm.
