Morrisville women make it nine straight, dominate Penn College in United East win

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team made it nine straight wins Saturday afternoon as they dominated Penn College for a 3-0 match win to remain undefeated in United East action on their home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball remained undefeated in conference action Saturday afternoon as they dominated visiting Penn College in a three-set match to post their ninth straight win of the season, and 31st consecutive victory in league play.
  • Morrisville, who out hit the Wildcats .542 to -.016 on the day, overpowered Penn with a team a total 47 kills, adding another 12 service aces as defensively the Mustangs limited the visitors to a match total 12 kills and two aces.
  • Senior Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) threw down a season best .789 hitting effort as she collected 15 kills in her 19 total attacks, adding two aces and four digs across the match.
  • Two additional 'Stangs collected double figures as well, as Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) posted 13 kills to go along with an ace, and Emily Huppee (Liberty Hill, Tex.) 10 as she hit a season best .909 from the floor.
  • Huppee added two blocks and an ace as well.
  • Defensively, Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) and Isabella Wallace (Homer, N.Y.) added seven digs each, while Hannah Taylor (Goshen, N.Y.) registered six to go along with her 40 assists.
  • Morrisville never trailed in the match and jumped out to an early 1-0 set lead behind the power of Florio at the net, who registered six of the team total 14 kills in the opening set.
  • The hosts dominated the offensive side of the ball in the second, nailing 17 kills, while hitting .708 from the floor, a 91% sideout.
  • Gates had all eyes on open spots on the floor, collecting seven kills in nine strikes, while Florio added another four to her totals.
  • Morrisville put the game away in the third with another stellar hitting effort from the floor, collecting 16 successful attacks, while hitting .560.
  • Florio matched her first set totals with another six, while Gates added five.
  • Huppee doubled her perfect hitting effort, collecting three kills in her three hitting attempts.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
 
  • Morrisville will head to cross town rival SUNY Poly on Tuesday, taking on the Wildcats in a 6 p.m. non-conference battle. The Mustangs defeated the Wildcats 3-0 on October 2nd.
  • The Mustangs will resume conference action on the 21st at Penn St. Berks, facing St. Mary's College of Maryland and Penn St. Berks in Reading, Pennsylvania.
