Morrisville volleyball powers way to win over Wells

Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball team took to their home court Saturday afternoon and walked away with a 3-0 United East Conference win over visiting Wells College, upping their league stance to 3-0.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • SUNY Morrisville women's volleyball collected their eighth straight win Saturday morning as they topped visiting Wells College 3-0 after earning 25-16, 25-10 and 25-18 set wins over the Express on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.
  • The win is the third for the Mustangs in United East play to date on the season, and the program's 30th straight, dating back to the 2017 season.
  • Morrisville dominated the offensive attack, hitting a .352 across the three-set match, including a set best .536 in the second.
  • Senior captain Kirsten Florio (Wellsboro, Pa.) led the Mustangs attack at the net with her match high 13 kills as Morrisville added another 12 from Kayci Olson (Cortland, N.Y.) who powered a nearly unstoppable .857 hitting effort.
  • Siobhan Moore (Leyden, Mass.) put up 35 assists in the match, adding three service aces to her totals.
  • Anna Salamino (Liverpool, N.Y.) led the defense with 12 digs, adding an ace and two assists herself, while getting assistance from outside hitter Brianna Gates (Eagle, Colo.) who added eight digs in addition to contributing nine kills and three aces.
  • Morrisville claimed the first set by a 25-16 final score, utilizing the serving of Moore and attacking game of a trio of hitters for the Mustangs.
  • Florio threw down four in the set, while Olson and Kathryn Dolan (Quincy, Calif.) each collected three.
  • In the second, again it was the combo of Moore's serving with Florio and Olson cleaning up at the net, while Florio threw down seven of her match total kills and Olson adding another five.
  • Salamino was a defensive force for Morrisville, adding six digs to her total in the frame as Morrisville waled away with a 25-10 set performance.
  • In the third, Gates took over at the net, posting seven of her match total nine kills, and Olson added another four, boosting the Mustangs to a 25-18 victory, and 3-0 match win.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
  • Morrisville will complete the weekend action with a 3 p.m. match against Penn College in the second of the United East scheduled contests.
