Mighty Oaks pull away late from Mustangs

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Women's soccer took a break away from United East conference play, hosting the Mighty Oaks of SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry on Wednesday evening under the lights on Drake Field. The Mustangs could not hold off a late charge from SUNY ESF, suffering a 2-1 loss.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Sophomore, Ashley Tette (Rochester, NY) gave Morrisville the start they were looking for, scoring the opening goal just five minutes into the contest. Tette connected on a perfect through pass from Tiffany Dicenzo (Rochester, NY), scoring on one-touch clear past ESF's keeper.
  • ESF's Abby Neil netted the equalizer just six minutes later on an unassisted goal.
  • The Mighty Oaks held a 5-3 edge in shots heading into halftime.
  • The Mustangs had a couple of opportunities to even the score throughout the second half, with their best chance coming with just nine minutes to play. Morrisville charged down the field and earned a corner, setting up junior Zoe Costello (Kingston, NY) with a perfect corner cross. Her shot grazed the top of the goal, keeping the score even tied at 1-1.
  • With the final minutes of regulation counting down, ESF earned a free kick coming off a foul just outside the penalty box. Grace Sinsebox took the free kick, firing a shot to the top right, netting the game-winner with less than three minutes to play.
  • Morrisville's Melanie Rott (Niagara Falls, NY) tallied three saves for the Mustangs.

  • SUNY Morrisville women's soccer returns to the pitch on Tuesday evening, hosting Wells College in United East conference play at 7:00pm.
