Morrisville powers past Cazenovia for series sweep, 84-76

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville women's basketball team had three net double figures Saturday afternoon as they posted an 84-76 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting Cazenovia College, completing the series sweep.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The Morrisville women's basketball team got one back in the win column Saturday as they swept the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) series over visiting Cazenovia College, topping the visiting Wildcats 84-76 in Morrisville.
  • Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) and Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) each posted 20 points for the Mustangs, while fellow teammate Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) added 14 off the bench in the win.
  • Vieira also added five assists and a team high seven steals, while Campbell nearly missed the double-double with eight assists, also collecting four steals and six off the glass.
  • Campbell hit 6-of-11 from beyond the arc, leading the shooting effort from long range.
  • Hammersley added a team high seven rebounds, assisting three.
  • Morrisville held the 16-15 edge after the opening quarter before rattling off 25 points in the second to send the game into the break with a 41-27 host lead.
  • Cazenovia clawed their way back in the second half, putting together a 62% shooting effort from the floor, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome as the Mustangs escaped with the win.
  • Morrisville forced 23 Cazenovia turnovers, capitalizing for 25 points, and got 23 total in their bench play, compared to six for the Wildcats.
  • Cazenovia held the slight advantage in rebounding on the afternoon, but with Hammersley's play, the Mustangs were able to pull ahead in offensive boards, 10 to four.
