Dennis leads Morrisville to fifth straight, nets 2,000th collegiate point

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Senior Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) posted a season high 36 -points to lead all scorers Saturday afternoon, leading the host Morrisville men's basketball team to a 87-68 victory over Route 20 Rival Cazenovia College on the Mustangs home court. The outing proved to be a major milestone for the senior, who collected his 2,000th collegiate point, the first in the Mustang uniform to reach that mark in program history.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Morrisville forward Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) became the first in Mustang men's basketball history to reach the 2,000-point milestone mark Saturday afternoon, as he poured in a single game high 36 points, 22 in the second half of play, to lead the hosts to an 87-68 win over Route 20 Rival Cazenovia in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action in Morrisville.
  • Dennis completed the double-double performance with 15 rebounds, also adding a clock and assist as he shot 15-for-22 from the floor in 27 minutes of action.
  • The senior hit the 2,000-point plateau with 1:24 to go in the contest, converting both free throw attempts as the Mustang lead was extended to 19.
  • Two additional Morrisville men's players collected double figures, including Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) who added 13 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
  • Rahmell Smith (Syracuse, N.Y.) posted 10 off the bench for the Mustangs, with fellow teammate Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) adding six rebounds, two blocks and four assists to the win.
  • Jon Brennan (Irvington, N.Y.) collected four assists, four steals and five rebounds, to go along with six points.
  • Morrisville outgained the visiting Wildcats from the get-go, opening with four straight three's, en route to a 17-4 four minute run from the opening whistle.
  • The Mustangs were able to increase their lead to as many as 22 behind their 54.5% shooting effort from the floor in the first half, before Cazenovia cut into the lead to make it a 47-31 game at the break.
  • The second half proved no different as the Mustangs continued their dominance in the paint, avenging the January last second loss to Cazenovia as they collected the 87-68 victory.
  • Morrisville outmuscled Cazenovia 44-26 in the paint, including a 42-29 effort on the glass.

  • Morrisville is back in action Wednesday, traveling to SUNY Cobleskill before heading to Washington, D.C. for a NEAC battle at Gallaudet.
