WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • South Division top seeded Lancaster Bible College held a 13-point lead heading into the fourth and final frame of Saturday's second North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) semifinal action at SUNY Poly, but was unable to maintain their distance as the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs outscored the Chargers 21-4 to collect the win and advance to the championship final.
  • Both teams went scoreless until the 7:28 mark of the fourth quarter when Shardae Cooper (Rochester, N.Y.) notched the first bucket of the frame, and completed the three-point play with another from the free throw line, followed by a layup from Alexis Campbell (Buffalo, N.Y.) to make it an eight-point game with just over seven to go.
  • Both teams hit a lull in scoring until the 4:59 mark, when Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) had the put-back layup with Campbell notching a three from the top of the key on the ensuing Mustang possession, bringing Morrisville within three.
  • Caitlin Hickey extended the lead to five for the Chargers with a jumper in the paint, but Hammersley converted two from the free throw line following another offensive board, again bringing the game within one possession.
  • A layup by Mikayla Via extended the lead to five, but Campbell drilled a layup seconds later, and ignited a scoring frenzy by the Mustangs over the final 1:46 of play, as Morrisville wrapped up the quarter with a 9-0 run to secure the win.
  • Campbell led Morrisville with 14 points, adding four rebounds and four assists to her totals, while Hammersley came off the bench and collected her first collegiate double-double chipping in 12 points and adding a season high 13 rebounds.
  • Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) collected nine off the bench as well, as Cooper added eight to go along with her five-rebound performance.
  • Morrisville went 7-for18 in the fourth frame, 38.89%, and finished the contest 13-for-14 from the free throw line.
  • Their 29-point contribution off the bench proved vital, while also notching 16 additional points off Charger miscues (15).
