Cardinals Overpower Mustangs 8-2 in SUNYAC Action

Box Score PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Morrisville men's hockey team dropped a State Universities of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) road contest on Friday night, falling to Plattsburgh State 8-2.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • With much needed points on the line for entry into the SUNYAC playoffs, the Mustangs came out firing, picking up 1-0 lead just 19 seconds into the contest off of the stick of defenseman, James Boisvert (Mansfield, Tex.).  Jesse Anderson (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) and Christian Vella (Rochester, N.Y.) picked up the assists.
  • Plattsburgh responded in kind just over two minutes later to tie the game at 1-1. 
  • The Cardinals would score once more in the first period in the 7th minute to take the 2-1 lead.
  • Up by a score, the home squad extended their lead to 3-1 in the third minute of play in the second.
  • However, the Mustangs got themselves right back in it at the 8:17 mark when R. Austin Johnson (Pawling, N.Y.) found the back of the net during a Morrisville power play opportunity.
  • Just under a minute later, the Cardinals broke through to rattle off three straight in the remainder of the second period to take a 6-2 lead into the second intermission.
  • Plattsburgh tacked on two more in the third to lock up the 8-2 victory.
WHAT'S NEXT
  • The Mustangs will wrap up their regular season slate and their conference series with the Plattsburgh State Cardinals on Saturday night at 7 PM in Plattsburgh, N.Y.
