Morrisville men outlasted in NEAC battle at Poly

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville men's basketball team dropped their first North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest of the season Saturday afternoon, falling by a 83-71 final to host SUNY Poly in league action in Marcy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville men's basketball struggled to get out of a halftime hole Saturday, dropping a 83-71 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) league contest to host SUNY Polytechnic in Marcy.
  • Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Mustang efforts with 24 points and 12 rebounds, hitting 10-of-14 from the floor, while blocking two.
  • Ishmael Chisholm (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and Jaylin Montalvo (Hempstead, N.Y.) also recorded double figures; Chisholm collecting 15 as he hit three from beyond the arc.
  • Montalvo added 11 points to the visitor efforts, assisting two.
  • Morrisville was outgunned 54.2% to 44.4% in shooting from the floor on the afternoon, as Poly went 32-for-59 in total from the floor.
  • The Mustangs were able to pull within two with 6:36 to go in the second half as Montalvo converted both free throw attempts, but a n 8-2 offensive spurt by the Wildcats widened the Poly gap to eight, a distance the hosts were able to maintain before being forced to earn the win from the free throw line.
  • Five recorded double digits for Poly, including Josh Gregory who collected 21 to lead the Wildcats.
  • Poly held the slight 33-31 edge on the boards, with Kievonn Banks collecting a total 13.
