Morrisville women complete weekend sweep, top Penn 71-63

WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team made it three straight wins Sunday afternoon as they completed the weekend sweep with a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over Penn College by a 71-63 final score in Williamsport.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Morrisville women's basketball picked up their third straight victory Sunday afternoon since the semester break, handing host Penn College a 71-63 loss on the Wildcats home court.
  • Senior Tori Rockefeller (South Kortright, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 19 points, while adding five rebounds and five steals.
  • Freshmen Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) each posted 14, combining for eight steals, seven rebounds and six assists.
  • Miranda Wright (Smyrna, N.Y.) also contributed to the win with a team high five assist effort, also collecting four steals.
  • Morrisville utilized a strong first quarter to set the tone early, out gaining the hosts 26-13 in the opening quarter of play, including a 9-0 spurt with three straight from behind the arc to break open the double-digit lead midway through.
  • The Mustangs maintained their distance, sending the game into the second with a 13-point cushion.
  • Penn put together a 5-0 spurt to cut into the Morrisville lead in the second quarter, but back-to-back buckets by the Mustangs in the closing minute sent the game into the halftime break with a 42-26 visitor advantage.
  • The hosts outgained Morrisville 15-13 in the third, and 22-16 in the fourth, but the lead the Mustangs built up from play in the opening half of action was too much to overcome as they collected the league win.
  • Morrisville forced 36 Wildcat turnovers, capitalizing for 31 points off Penn miscues, taking advantage of their transition game.
  • The Mustangs led by as many as 23 in the fourth quarter.

  • Morrisville hosts Wells College on Wednesday, and will look to make it four straight before facing SUNY Polytechnic next Saturday in cross town rival action. Tip Wednesday is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Morrisville.
