Morrisville women run by Berks in fourth for NEAC win

READING, PA – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team out gained host Penn St. Berks 23-13 in the fourth quarter as they held off the hosts for a come-from-behind 84-76 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon in Reading.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team picked up their second straight win of 2020 Saturday afternoon as they out gained host Penn St. Berks 23-13 in the fourth quarter to post the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win by a 84-76 final in Reading.
  • Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) led all scorers on the afternoon for the second time in as many games, netting 27 total points as she drained four from beyond the arc, while adding five rebounds, three steals and two assists to her tallies.
  • Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) collected a collegiate high 17 points, also netting four from behind the arc, while dishing out four assists.
  • Tori Rockefeller (South Kortright, N.Y.) added 18 in the win, 12 of which came in the second half of play. Rockefeller also collected a team best seven rebounds and four steals.
  • Berks out gained Morrisville 26-22 in the third quarter to carry the 63-61 advantage into the final frame, but it was the Mustangs who came alive in the fourth to regain and hold on to the lead for the win.
  • After battling back and forth for the opening minutes of the final quarter, Morrisville took advantage of a Berks turnover and Rockefeller converted the layup on the opposite end for the 68-66 lead, kicking off a 12-0 run for the Mustangs over the next five minutes of play to extend the lead to 12.
  • Berks registered seven turnovers during that span, leading to eight Mustang points.
  • The hosts were able to claw their way back to within seven, following a three ball from Nicole Kopcik, but a three from Shardae Cooper (Rochester, N.Y.) and another layup from Rockefeller maintained a double-digit distance for the win.
  • Berks finished the contest with 33 turnovers, resulting in 33 points for Morrisville off miscues.
  • Morrisville put together a 50% shooting effort in the second half, finishing 41.4% on the afternoon, while holding Berks to a 25% effort in the final frame.
