Mustangs settle for 3-3 tie with rival Cazenovia

MORRISVILLE, NY – Sophomore forward, Teo Chavez scored the game-tying goal with less than eleven minutes left in regulation Tuesday, as the Mustangs and the Wildcats settled for a 3-3 tie in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) men's soccer match. Morrisville State holds a 2-5-2 overall record and sits at 1-1-1 in conference play, while Cazenovia has a 3-3-2 overall record and is winless in conference action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The Mustang offensive attack struck twice in the opening seven minutes of play. Chandley Elie (Baldwin, NY) got things started for the hosts at the 5:15 mark, notching his third goal of the season. Elie has now scored in each of his last three contests.
  • Less than two minutes later, Chavez scored his first of two goals on the afternoon to give the Mustangs an early 2-0 lead. Jack Gardiner (Florida, NY) was credited with the assist.
  • The Wildcats would score in the 36' to cut the Mustang lead to one heading into halftime.
  • Cazenovia's David Andreasson evened the score at 2-2 in the 78' with a penalty kick goal after a Mustang foul in the box. Zach Schlachter would give Cazenovia their first lead of the game just a minute later, as the junior found the back of the net to give the visitor's a 3-2 lead with less than twelve minutes remaining.
  • Chavez netted the game-tying goal at the 79:18 mark, which eventually sent the game into overtime. Despite twenty additional minutes of action, neither team managed to deliver resulting in a 3-3 tie.
  • Chavez led the Mustangs with two goals and an assist, with four shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper, Tyler Card (McGraw, NY) posted ten saves in all 110' of play in goal for Morrisville State.

  • Morrisville State returns to action when they travel to Keuka College on Saturday afternoon for a NEAC contest. The game is slated to start at 1:00pm.
