Women’s Soccer falls short in first day of Brozman Cup

ONEONTA, NY – Morrisville State women's soccer opened up their 2019 season with a loss on Friday evening, falling to Utica College in the first round of the Brozman Cup Tournament, hosted by Hartwick College. The Mustangs were unable to overcome the high-powered Pioneer offense, falling 4-0 in their season opener.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • The Mustangs were outshot 13-3 in the opening 45 minutes of play. They managed to even out the offensive attack in the second half, posting seven shots on goal, to Utica's six. But the Pioneers held the overall 19-10 advantage with shots on goals, in addition to a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Four separate Pioneers notched a goal for Utica College, while senior goalkeeper, Allison Wagner recorded five saves in the victory, earning her, her twelfth career shutout.
  • Sophomore defender, Kayla Kelly (North Babylon, NY) led the Mustangs with three shots, all on goal on the afternoon, while Angelina Rinaldi (Huntington Station, NY) came off the bench and posted three shots, two on goal.
  • Morrisville State started six freshman in the season opener, including freshman goalkeeper, Meghan Miller (West Irondequoit, NY). In her debut in net, Miller notched six saves in all 90' of play.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
Morrisville State continues play tomorrow in the Brozman Cup Tournament, hosted by Hartwick College. The Mustangs will face off against Hartwick at 12:00pm on Elmore Field in Oneonta.
