Morrisville men withstand Lancaster Bible charge, collect 86-78 NEAC win

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host SUNY Morrisville men's basketball withstood a late Lancaster Bible College charge Saturday afternoon, picking up a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win by a final 86-78 score on the Mustangs home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting Lancaster Bible College men's basketball rallied from a 13-point second half deficit Saturday afternoon and battled back-and-forth with the Mustangs, but it was Morrisville that withstood the late charge to collect the 86-78 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) win.
  • Kevin Dennis (Bronx, N.Y.) had a monster game for the Mustangs in the paint, leading all scorers with 33 points on the day, adding 11 rebounds and four blocked shots to his tallies as held the slim 26-24 advantage in the paint.
  • Dennis shot 11-for-15 from the floor, nearly repeating those same numbers from the free throw line, hitting 11-of-14 from the charity stripe.
  • Tyrin Miller (White Plains, N.Y.) added 17 for the Mustangs, recording three assists.
  • Ishmael Chisholm (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded a season high outing off the bench for Morrisville, nailing 5-of-6 from long range for a total 18 points.
  • Senior Derek Beames (Otego, N.Y.) posted three blocked shots to go along with eight points, adding six rebounds and a team high seven assists in the win.
  • Four posted double-digits for Lancaster, including Jordan Shewbridge who led the Chargers with 26 points on his six three's. He also had five assists in the loss.
  • Tyler Norris added 17, to go along with a team high seven rebounds, while teammate Jackson Henri added 12 points.
  • Luke Bears wrapped up the leaderboard with 10 points, contributing three assists.
  • Morrisville led by as many as nine until the Chargers took advantage of the hot hand of Shewbridge to cut the Mustang lead to just four later in the opening half, battling within a possession.
  • Chisholm added a jumper with 13 ticks to go in the opening period, leading the Mustangs into the break with a 41-37 advantage.
  • The Mustangs increased their lead to as many as 13 in the opening four minutes of the second half and maintained that distance until midway through when Lancaster put together a 7-0 spurt to get back within striking distance.
  • Beames regained the double-digit lead for the Mustangs with a three from the top of the key, but another seven-point swing by the Chargers again brought the visitors within striking distance in the second.
  • Both teams battled back-and-forth with Lancaster taking the lead with 3:39 to go on a three from Shewbridge, but the Mustangs used the power of Dennis inside to regain the advantage, and collect the win.
  • Morrisville shot 50% from the floor across the contest, including a 76.7% effort from the free throw line where they hit 23 of a total 30.
  • The Mustangs forced 19 Charger miscues, turning them into 23 points.

  • Morrisville returns to the court next Saturday, hosting Hartwick College at 4 p.m. before wrapping up the first semester action on the road at Middlebury on the 16th.
