Morrisville women head into break after falling in road affair

UTICA, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team fell behind early in the fourth and were unable to overcome the host Utica College Pioneer lead, as they dropped the final game of the first half of the season 81-64 in cross town action Saturday in Utica.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's basketball headed into the semester break Saturday afternoon with a loss, falling 81-64 to host Utica College as they were unable to overcome the Pioneer spurt in the fourth quarter.
  • Tori Rockefeller (South Kortright, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 19 points, adding five rebounds while dishing out three assists and collecting a pair of steals.
  • A trio of freshmen lended to the scoring efforts for Morrisville reaching double figures, including Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Calif.) who contributed 13, adding a team high nine rebounds.
  • Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) and Brooke Hammersley (Weedsport, N.Y.) each added 10, with Hammersley collecting a season high eight boards.
  • Morrisville struggled to contain sharpshooter Sydney Przygoda who collected a game high 29 points for Utica, adding 11 rebounds for the double-double, while recording five steals.
  • Utica registered 46 of their total 81 points with play in the paint, including 34 that came off a total 21 Morrisville miscues.
  • Morrisville shot 36.8% from the floor on the day, with a best 52.94% effort in the second quarter where they outscored the hosts 24-19.
  • The Mustangs hung within a few possessions of the hosts minutes into the fourth frame until a 13-2 run by the Pioneers extended their lead to double-digits, and one that proved difficult to overcome.

  • Morrisville enters the break with a 4-4 overall record, and will resume action Saturday, January 4th on the road at Buffalo State.
