Morrisville women post second straight win, top Canton 66-51

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Morrisville women's basketball team picked up a second straight win Saturday afternoon, topping visiting SUNY Canton by a 66-51 final score on their home court in Morrisville.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • For the second time in as many days, the Morrisville women's basketball team utilized strong play by its backcourt unit to take down a visiting opponent, topping SUNY Canton by a 66-51 final score to pull their record even at 3-3 Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
  • The Mustangs drained 13 from beyond the arc across the day, including six off the hand of senior guard Tori Rockefeller (South Kortright, N.Y.).
  • Rockefeller led all scorers with 19, adding a team high seven rebounds and three assists.
  • Freshman Rachel Vieira (Caruthers, Cali.) added to the Mustangs efforts with a collegiate high 15 points, collecting six steals and four assists.
  • Fellow freshman, Taylor Colone-Microni (Oneonta, N.Y.) added 10 off the bench, collecting five steals and dishing out three assists, while snagging three off the offensive glass.
  • Joie Culkin and Autumn Watkins put a double-double effort forward for the Roos, with Culkin tallying 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Watkins 10 points, 10 boards.
  • Morrisville trailed 15-7 after the opening quarter and fought back in the second, using a 12-4 run that included three from downtown to make it a one-point game with just over three minutes showing on the clock.
  • A Culkin jumper regained the three-point lead for the Roos, but back-to-back layups by Vieira and Colone-Microni gave the Mustangs the one-point advantage, 23-22 at the break.
  • The third quarter belonged to the Mustangs as they outgunned Canton 29-11 in the frame to break the game open to a 19-point host advantage.
  • After exchanging buckets early on, Morrisville went on a 13-2 run, and added another 14-5 late in the quarter to carry a 52-33 advantage into the final quarter of action.
  • Morrisville increased their lead to as many as 21 in the fourth, and didn't look back, collecting the victory.
  • The hosts forced 37 Roo miscues, turning them in to 26 of their own points, while shooting 38.10% from long range in the second half.
  • Morrisville who collected 18 offensive boards, recorded 42 total on the day.

  • Morrisville will return to the court on Saturday, December 7th, hosting Lancaster Bible College in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opener on the Mustangs home court.
