First half propels Morrisville women past Gallaudet, 2-1

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Visiting SUNY Morrisville women's soccer scored twice in the opening half of the season finale at host Gallaudet University, holding on for the 2-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory to wrap up the season slate.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
  • Visiting SUNY Morrisville scored twice in the opening half of Saturday's NEAC battle at host Gallaudet University, and withstood pressure by the Bison in the second half as they collected the 2-1 league win to wrap up the 2019 slate.
  • Freshman Hailey Moriarty (Nunda, N.Y.) put the visitors on the board 13 minutes into the game, firing the ball over the head of the Bison goalkeeper from about 15 yards out off the feed from senior Madison Shoemaker (Caledonia, N.Y.).
  • Nearly 15 minutes later, freshman Rachel Davis (LaFargeville, N.Y.) added to the Mustang lead with her first collegiate score, placing the ball high on the left off the pass from Jennyfer Marquez (Port Chester, N.Y.).
  • Morrisville carried the 2-0 lead into the second and withheld a two goal advantage until the 77th minute when Henrianne Jansen gave the Bison life and cut the lead to one with her 25-yard blast into the upper right corner.
  • Gallaudet kept pressure on the Mustangs but came up empty as Morrisville State withstood the charge at the end to collect the win.
  • Morrisville had the opportunity to regain a two goal lead in the 84th minute, but Gallaudet's goalkeeper, Payton DeGraw, turned the penalty kick away.
  • Meaghan Miller (West Irondequoit, N.Y.) collected the win for the Mustangs, registering five saves in 75 minutes of action, before being relieved by Lydia Young (Cuyler, N.Y.) for the final 15.
  • Young made two stops in net.
  • Silvya Levesque registered three saves in the loss for the Bison in the opening half. DeGraw finished with five stops.
 
WHAT'S NEXT:
  • Morrisville State concludes the 2019 slate with a 6-11 overall record, finishing 4-7 in conference play.
