WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The visiting Mustangs from Stevenson completely dominated the first two periods of play on Sunday afternoon, out shooting Morrisville 16-8 in each frame.
- Despite the lop-sided shot total, neither squad was able to find the back of the net for the first 29 minutes of play.
- Stevenson was able to capitalize at the 9:11 mark in the third with an even handed goal by Nick Gray.
- However, Morrisville was able to even the score as they capitalized on a Stevenson tripping penalty.
- Ben Sprague (Norfolk, N.Y.) started the play, skating the puck out from behind the Stevenson net. Sprague turned on a dime, and slipped a shot towards the crease. The Stevenson net minder, Ryan Kenny stopped the shot, but the puck rebounded back to the awaiting stick of Eric Melso (Philadelphia, Pa.) who deposited it inside the right post.
- With the score knotted at 1 all in the third, Stevenson continued to pound the Morrisville net.
- Stevenson's Chad Watt was particularly persistent, scoring twice within 16 seconds, first at the 11:04 mark and again at 11:20, to put the visitors on top 3-1.
- Morrisville continued to push for opportunities despite being outshot 11-5 in the third, drawing a Stevenson elbowing penalty less than a minute later.
- Unfortunately for the home Mustangs, the penalty kill of Stevenson would prevail to hold on for the 3-1 victory.
- Owen Liskiewicz (Red Bank, N.J.) suffered the hard luck loss in net for Morrisville as he turned away 40 shots in his home debut between the pipes.
