MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team picked up their third straight win Wednesday night, toppling visiting SUNY Cobleskill by a 72-48 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) final in Morrisville.
The win pulls the Mustangs even in their overall record at 7-7, while upping their NEAC record to 6-1. Cobleskill drops to 7-9, 2-6 within NEAC action.
Senior guard Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) had a stellar game for Morrisville State, leading all scorers with 29 points as she hit 9-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Kilmartin added six rebounds to her tallies on the night, while teammate Peyton Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) contributed 10 points to go along with three assists.
Marissa Woodard (Unadilla, N.Y.) just missed a double-double, netting nine points to go along with 10 rebounds, as Morrisville State edged the Fighting Tigers 51-44 on the glass. Five of her total 10 came on the offensive boards, where the Mustangs held the 19-11 advantage.
Monique Britton led Cobleskill's efforts with 12 points, adding five rebounds, while teammate's Gabby Muraczewski and Shaliyah Graham each collected 10 rebounds.
Morrisville State led 12-9 after the opening quarter before posting a 13-4 run midway through the second to open the game to an 11 point host advantage.
Cobleskill was able to pull within eight, but that was short-lived as a three from Kilmartin, followed by one from Jackson regained the double digit lead and ignited a 12-2 Mustang run to close out the half and send the game into the locker room at the break with a 39-23 Morrisville State lead.
Morrisville State maintained their distance in the third before putting the game away in the final frame, outscoring the visitors 20-12 enroute to the 72-48 win.
The Mustangs capitalized on 25 Cobleskill miscues, netting 18 points off turnovers, while adding another 12 in second chance opportunities.
They return to the court Saturday, hosting Penn College of Technology in a 3 p.m. NEAC match-up on the Mustangs home court.
