Mustangs cruise to 21-4 win over Bryn Athyn

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Morrisville State College women's lacrosse team scored eight unanswered in first half to cruise to a 21-4 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory over visiting Bryn Athyn College on Sunday afternoon in Morrisville.

The win lifts the Mustangs to 5-7 overall, and to a 4-1 record in conference play, while Bryn Athyn falls to 2-6 overall, 1-4 in NEAC.

Elizabeth Leva (Hoosick Falls, N.Y.) set the pace for the Mustangs on the day with 5 goals on the day. Four additional teammates posted hat tricks on the day including Celia Abbott (Shortsville, N.Y.), Jacqueline O'Sullivan (Cazenovia, N.Y.), Jenna Harris (Owego, N.Y.) and Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.). Abbott also contributed with three assists, while O'Sullivan added two assists.

Kallie George (Tully, N.Y.) picked up the win in net for Morrisville, giving up only two goals in first 30 minutes in the game.  Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) registered two saves in the final 30 minutes of the game for the Mustangs

Following a Bryn Athyn goal by Sabrina Colbridge to even the score at one apiece, the Mustangs strung together eight straight unanswered goals to push the lead to 9-1. Leva scored three in this stretch, while Harris added two more. Morrisville would finish the half on a 5-0 run to push the lead to 14-2 at the half.

Cavellier opened the scoring in the second period with two back-to-back goals that pushed the lead to 16-2 before the Lions would score again. Abbott and O'Sullivan each added two goals in the closing minutes of the second half to lead the Mustangs to a convincing 21-4 win.

The Mustangs dominated the Lions in nearly every facet of the game, including a 41-8 advantages in shots on the day. Morrisville won the ground ball battle 31-13 over Bryn Athyn, with O'Sullivan collecting five.

Morrisville State also edged the visitors in draw controls outgaining Bryn Athyn 19-6, with Leva collecting nine for the hosts.

The Mustangs return to the field on Wednesday, April 20 as they travel to NEAC conference opponent SUNY Canton. First draw control is set for 4 p.m.
