Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team used a 22-6 third quarter to hand visiting Penn College of Technology a 72-50 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) defeat Saturday afternoon in Morrisville.
Morrisville State ups their record to 13-7 overall, 8-4 in conference action, while the Wildcats drop to 3-13, 3-11 in NEAC play.
Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) was one of two Mustangs to post double figures, leading the way with 24 points and seven rebounds, while dishing out three assists, as teammate Charlotte Walker (Middle Island, N.Y.) came off the bench to contribute 10 in the win.
A trio of players each posted six points on the day, including Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) who added dive rebounds, six assists and four steals to her tallies.
Kennedy Cox (Blythe, Calif.) added a seven point performance off the bench for the Mustangs, also snagging two rebounds as Morrisville State dominated the glass 49-33.
Alicia Ross led Penn College with 26, while teammates Danielle Mowery and Marissa Keegan each contributed nine in the visitors losing efforts.
Morrisville State set the tone early, opening with an 8-0 run in the first quarter and held Penn College scoreless until the 4:33 mark when a free throw by Ebani Lewis broke the Wildcat scoring drought by hitting the back end of two free throws.
The Mustangs posted a 36-25 halftime lead, outshooting the Wildcats 45.2% to 29.6%, and dominating the glass 25-13.
In the third, Morrisville State outscored the visitors 22-6, taking advantage of turnovers to claim the 58-31 lead heading into the fourth, one that was too much for Penn College to overcome. The Mustangs finished with the dominating 49-33 performance on the glass, posting a 41.8% shooting effort from the floor.
Morrisville State returns to the floor tomorrow, hosting College of St. Elizabeth at 1 p.m.
