Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Sunday afternoon, topping visiting Bryn Athyn College by a 2-0 final on Drake Field in Morrisville.
The win gets the Mustangs back on track to 9-2, while improving to 8-1 in the NEAC. Bryn Athyn falls to 3-10-1 overall, 3-6-1 in the conference.
Battling to a scoreless tie for most of the first half, Morrisville State's Kossi Philippe Nodjo (New York City, N.Y.) broke through the Bryn Athyn defense, notching the unassisted tally in the 42nd minute for the 1-0 host lead. Nodjo gathered the ball after a deflection off the Lions goalkeeper hands, having wide open net as Bryn Athyn found themselves out of position.
Bryn Athyn had a chance early on to even the score, but Morrisville State keeper Mick Keilan (Berlin, N.Y.) deflected the ball on the shot that came within 10 yards of the net.
Again the Lions had a chance to tie the contest at one minutes later, but the play of Keilan kept Bryn Athyn off the board. Mohamed Kamara had the fast break opportunity and faced a one-on-one with Keilan, but Keilan cut down the angle and made a great grab to prevent the score.
Morrisville State's Moo Kpor Mu (Buffalo, N.Y.) extended the lead to two in the 78th minute scoring off a blast from midfield over the head of Geri Alimadi into the left side of the net. Jose Figueroa (Boston, Mass.) was credited with the assist after one-touching the pass to Mu at the center line.
Keilan finished with nine saves for the shutout victory, his third of the year.
Alimadi registered 12 in the loss for the Lions.
Morrisville State returns to the pitch next Saturday, traveling to Gallaudet University for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
