Morrisville State volleyball splits weekend of NEAC Pool Play

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College volleyball team split the weekend of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) pool play on Saturday against Penn State Berks and Penn College.

The Mustangs were defeated by Penn State Berks in four sets with Morrisville winning only the first 25-21.

Penn State Berks then went on to win the next three sets, 25-23, 25-14, and 25-23.

Emilee Niejadlik (Hamburg, N.Y.) and Courtney LaVere (Oswego, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with 19 and 7 kills respectively.  While Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) and Kim Dunkleman (Williamsville, N.Y.) had 17 and 12 digs respectively.

The Mustangs had 10.5 team blocks through the four sets with Alison Brockway (Westmoreland, N.Y.) and Helena Hanes (St. Marys, P.A.) each having one sole block and four block assists.

Morrisville then took on and defeated Penn College in three sets (25-8, 25-21, 25-15).  LeVere once again led the charge with 8 kills, while Dunkleman had 5, and Sabrina Figueroa (New City, N.Y.) had 4.

Murphy had 12 digs throughout the match while Dunkleman had 11, and Shania Shaver (Candor, N.Y.) had 10.

Defensively LaVere added 2 solo blocks while Dunkleman had 2 block assists.

The Mustangs will next play October 2 and 3 at the Hartwick Invitational.
