Volleyball Splits Day 1 of NEAC Pool Play

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs hosted one of the first NEAC Pool Play events this season and ended the first day of competition with a split. Morrisville won their first match of the day defeating Bryn Athyn 3-1, but dropped their second 3-1 against the College of St. Elizabeth.

Morrisville battled back and forth with Bryn Athyn all match. The Mustangs pushed through to pick up the first two set. Bryn Athyn rebounded, winning the third set before Morrisville figured out a way to shut the door in the fourth set. Each set in the match was decided by two points.

Morrisville once again picked up the opening set win against the College of St. Elizabeth, but the Mustangs were unable to sustain their run. St. Elizabeth picked up wins in the second, third and fourth set to pick up the match win.

The Mustangs benefited from a balanced attack throughout the afternoon and evening. Emilee Niejadlick (Hamburg, N.Y.) led the way offensively, picking up 24 total kills on the day. Courtney LaVere (Oswego, N.Y.) chipped in with 17 and Alison Brockway (Westmoreland, N.Y.) added 14.

Morrisville will wrap up their first weekend of conference play tomorrow at 1 PM against Penn State Abington.
