Oneonta downs Morrisville State in season opener, 2-0

Box Score

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Preseason third nationally ranked SUNY Oneonta found the back of the net twice in the first half en route to a 2-0 non-conference victory over host Morrisville State Tuesday night on Drake Field in Morrisville, in the Mustangs season opener.

Oneonta got on the board in the 28th minute, notching the first score of the 2015 season off a chip shot within the six meter box that came off the foot of Jake Sutherland for the 1-0 Red Dragon lead.

Within five minutes they posted another, as Zef Saljanin poked the thru ball past Morrisville State keeper Rob Larkin (Clinton, N.Y.) for the 2-0 visitor lead.

Neither team, despite some great scoring opportunities, could find the back of the net in the second half.

Larkin finished the game with seven saves on the night, including four in the second half.

Oneonta held the 15-6 advantage in shots on the night, while goalie Vincent Pellegrino turned away three Mustang attempts.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, taking on Cortland at the University of Rochester Flower City Tournament.

Morrisville State's curricula are enriched with applied learning and pave the way for opportunity at both the Morrisville and Norwich campuses. An action-oriented, interactive learning lab, the college is a national leader in technology and has been lauded for its exemplary, innovative and effective community service programs.
