Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team registered an 84-68 victory over host Penn College of Technology Saturday afternoon in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action, posting their sixth straight victory.
The win lifts Morrisville State to 14-5 overall, matching a win total last registered in the 2002 season. The Mustangs also increase their conference record to 10-2 with the victory.
Five scored double figures for Morrisville State as they outshot the hosts 46.1% to Penn College's 38.3% from the floor. Sophomore guard Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) led the Mustangs with a 20 point scoring effort, adding five assists and five steals to her tallies, while teammate Alyssa Gratien (Syracuse, N.Y.) poured in 18, also dishing out five assists on the day.
Senior guard Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) notched 14 in a 6-for-7 shooting effort from the floor and assisting three others, as teammate Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) contributed 14 off the bench to go along with a team high seven rebounds.
Caitlin Duree (Albuquerque, N.M.) rounded out the scoring leaderboard for Morrisville State with 12 points, collecting four rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Penn College had two lead the host efforts on the day, including Alicia Ross who notched a game high 26 points. Jamie Steer added 21, while contributing six rebounds and four steals.
Charese Bova controlled the glass for the Wildcats, snaring 15, as the hosts out rebounded the Mustangs 49-33 on the day, including a 17-9 effort on the offensive boards.
Morrisville State, coming off one of their best shooting performances earlier in the week against SUNY Poly continued where they left off, using a 53.1% shooting effort from the floor in the opening half to claim a 48-38 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Wildcats opened with a 5-0 run before Morrisville State responded with a 6-0 run of their own to regain the double digit lead five minutes in.
The Mustangs were able to increase their lead to as many as 17 with 5:45 remaining on the clock, a lead that proved difficult for the hosts to overcome, as Morrisville State used a 10-4 run over the final four minutes to capture the win.
Morrisville State forced 30 Wildcat turnovers, capitalizing as they netted 30 points. The Mustangs dominated play in the paint, outscoring Penn College 32-12.
Morrisville State wraps up the weekend action on the road at The College of Saint Elizabeth tomorrow. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. in New Jersey.
