Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a series sweep over Route 20 rival Cazenovia College in a 69-53 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) showdown in Cazenovia.
The win marks the 18th for the Mustangs, a program best, finishing 18-7 in the regular season as they await conference tournament seeding after completing the 2014-15 campaign with a 14-4 NEAC stint.
Senior Alyssa Gratien (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the pack of Mustangs that tamed the Wildcats with 25 points, adding four assists and two steals to her tallies while three additional teammates added double figures in the win.
Freshman Caitlin Duree (Albuquerque, N.M.) chipped in 12 points, all of her buckets coming from behind the arc, while senior teammate Jennel Paul (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 11, to go along with five rebounds and five steals on the night.
Junior Caitlynn Adams (Sherburne, N.Y.) registered 10 points off the bench for Morrisville State, who added three assists and three steals in the win.
Erin O'Malley was the lone Cazenovia player to notch double digits, managing 13 while grabbing a team high nine rebounds.
Morrisville State led 27-22 at the break before taking off offensively in the second half as Duree and Gratien proved to be a deadly combo, combining for 29 points, 21 that came from shots fired from long range, and Paul creating havoc defensively with five steals.
Cazenovia was able to pull within one with just over five minutes remaining on the clock, but Morrisville State went on a 13-0 run that included back-to-back three's to break the game open to a 14-point lead with 1:49 to go. The Mustangs closed out the contest with a 7-3 spurt to capture the conference win.
Morrisville State will await tournament seeding, as announced by the conference office after conclusion of all conference play this weekend. Their appearance in post-season will be the first for the program in its history.
