Box Score CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's basketball team cruised to a 74-51 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) victory Saturday afternoon, behind a dominate second half over host Cazenovia College in Cazenovia.
The win boosts the Mustangs to 4-3 overall, pulling them even in NEAC action with a 1-1 record. Cazenovia drops to 3-3 overall, falling to 0-2 in conference play.
Caitlynn Adams (Sherburne, N.Y.) and Charlotte Walker (Middle Island, N.Y.) each recorded a double-double on the day; Adams with a team high 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Walker behind her 14 point, 12 rebound performance.
Seven of Adams' rebounds came on the offensive glass as the Mustangs doubled up the Wildcats on the offensive boards 22-11. Morrisville State dominated the glass overall, as well, outrebounding Cazenovia 54-33.
Jordan Anderson (West Edmeston, N.Y.) contributed 15 points in the win, with teammate Haley Kilmartin (Fort Plain, N.Y.) dishing out a team best six assists while adding three steals.
Skylar Girard led the Cazenovia efforts with 20 points, as Taylor Spranger added 12 off the bench.
Morrisville State held a narrow 36-32 advantage at the half, before opening with a 10-0 third quarter run to increase their lead to 14 just over three minutes into the second half.
The Mustangs were able to maintain their double digit lead to close out the quarter, and used a 10-2 run to start the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 20, one that became difficult for the hosts to overcome. Morrisville State led by as many as 27 in the final frame.
Morrisville State hit 30-of-69 shots from the floor on the day, including 6-of-18 from long range.
The Mustangs return to the floor Wednesday, traveling to nearby Utica College for a non-conference match up before the holiday break.
