Morrisville State women settle for tie in 2OT thriller with Cazenovia

Box Score

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Host Morrisville State College women's soccer settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie with visiting Cazenovia College Thursday night in Morrisville in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action.

The tie is the first for the Mustangs on the season, as they wrap up the week with a 5-9-1 overall record, 4-6-1 in conference play. Cazenovia is 6-7-2 overall, and match the Morrisville State in NEAC play with a 4-6-1 record.

Cazenovia got on the board early, notching the first half tally just 6:33 into the contest on a breakaway by Briana Bailey down the right side of the field in a one-on-one with Morrisville State goalkeeper Kallie George (Tully, N.Y.).

George finished with eight saves on the night including one in the first overtime period that kept the Mustangs in the game.

Cazenovia had the opportunity to make it 2-0 less than 3 minutes into the second half but George made a great stop on a one versus goalie opportunity on a breakaway to keep the visitors to just one score.

Morrisville State's Courtney Cavellier (Rodman, N.Y.) posted a thrilling upper right corner score to knot the game at one with just 13:28 remaining, on a free-kick from 45 yards out, bringing the crowd to their feet.

As time was winding down, Cazenovia had the chance to put the game away, but George stepped up and made a point blank stop to force the overtime period.

After a scoreless first overtime frame, Morrisville State had a golden opportunity midway through the second session as a corner kick found the foot of Jasmine Wynter (Nedrow, N.Y.) who one-timed the ball into a diving Lauren Gee who made the stop and force the tie.

Morrisville State returns to the field Saturday, October 31, wrapping up the regular season on the road at NEAC opponent Keuka College.
