Box Score MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's volleyball team rallied from a 1-0 set deficit to top Route 20 rival Cazenovia College by a 3-1 final match score in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action Tuesday night in Morrisville.
The win lifts the Mustangs to 4-11 overall, 2-2 in conference play, while Cazenovia falls to 3-14 overall (0-3 NEAC).
Erika Bailey (Newark Valley, N.Y.) dished up 32 assists on the night, 16 to middle hitter Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.) and another 11 to outside hitter Brandy Ehrenschneider (Olmsted Falls, Ohio). Courtney LaVere (Oswego, N.Y.) had a hand in the offensive attack, throwing down seven kills.
Defensively, Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) paced the Mustangs with nine digs, while Kayla Mosher (Owego, N.Y.) made one solo and three assisted blocks at the net.
Bailey, Murphy and Ehrenschneider combined for 10 of the Mustangs 13 service ace strikes.
Cazenovia edged Morrisville State in the opening set 25-22, but the Mustangs came storming back to take the 2-1 set lead behind set wins of 25-20 and 29-27.
Morrisville State dominated the final set, earning the conference match victory with a 25-14 set score.
The win was bitter sweet for the Mustangs, who honored senior captains Alexis Hansen (Taberg, N.Y.) and Jackie Saddlemire (Knox, N.Y.) prior to the match.
The Mustangs host Hartwick on Thursday at 7 p.m., before hosting the second round of conference play on October 5th and 6th.
