Morrisville State volleyball picks up two wins on Day 1 of own tournament

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Morrisville State College women's volleyball picked up their first two wins of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Keystone College 3-1 and SUNY Cobleskill 3-0 on day one of the Mustangs five-team tournament.

The victories boost the Mustangs to 2-7 overall.

In the first of the day's action, Morrisville State held a 2-0 set lead (25-15, 25-20) before Keystone took the third by a slim 25-20 margin, fueling the Mustangs to the match win in set four with a 25-22 defeat.

Brandy Ehrenschneider (Olmsted, Ohio) led Morrisville State with 11 kills, adding six service aces and 11 digs to her tallies, while teammate Tiffany Jones-Maxwell (Hamilton, N.Y.) added eight kills and three assisted blocks.

Courtney LaVere (Oswego, N.Y.) threw down seven kills and had two aces, while Jessica Chandler (Morrisville, N.Y.) posted six kills. Erika Bailey (Newark Valley, N.Y.) had 31 assists in the match.

Kylie Murphy (Nichols, N.Y.) led the defensive efforts with 17 digs.

In the Mustangs second match-up, Morrisville State dominated conference foe SUNY Cobleskill at the net to pick up a 3-0 match win with set scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-17.

Jones-Maxwell took charge with 10 kills and six assisted stops at the net, while Ehrenschneider added six kills and two assisted blocks.

Chandler added five kills to her tallies on the day, making four stops at the net, while teammate Bailey posted 21 assists and four service aces.

Murphy again came up huge for the Mustangs defensively, recording a team high 15 digs, as Bailey nearly reached the double digit mark with nine.

Morrisville State used their height advantage at the net to boast 10.5 blocks in the match, while serving up 12 aces and throwing down 26 kills.

The Mustangs return to the court tomorrow for day two of the tournament, hosting D'Youville College at 11 a.m. and Penn State-Behrend at 3.
