Canton, N.Y. - Morrisville State College men's soccer team defeated non- conference foe SUNY Canton in a 1-0 nail biter on the road Wednesday night in Canton.
The offensive struggle on the pitch was due to an impressive showing of both defensive units. This preserved a scoreless match until Chernor Barrie (Bronx, N.Y.) received a ball off a scramble in front of the net by Jeffery Hado (Tema, Ghana) deep into the 80th min of action to put the Stangs up 1-0.
The late goal by Barrie ended up being the dagger for the Canton Roos, as a masterful performance in the net by the Mustangs keeper Eric Berglund (Elmira, N.Y.) resulted in seven turned away scoring opportunities to preserve the shutout victory.
The win moves Morrisville to 10-4-2 overall, 4-1-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC). The loss drops SUNY Canton to 8-9 on the season.
The Mustangs return to action Saturday October 26, against conference opponent SUNY IT to determine seeding for the upcoming NEAC Playoffs.
